Oh holy *&%# !!

This is just unmitigated stupidity. Stupid. Stupid stupid. Stupid with sprinkles.

Walk into a polling station in Belford Roxo, an impoverished city on the fringes of Rio de Janiero, on October 5 and you will be faced with an historic choice. You could vote for Alcides Rolim, the Workers’ Party mayoral candidate promising a “city for all” or Elizeu Pitorra, a local communist who believes it is “time for a change”. Most voters, however, will probably opt for Barack Obama, a 39-year-old Brazilian who, until recently, was known as Claudio Henrique dos Anjos.

Where, oh where to begin. Well. First, it may just be a one-off thing, right ? Rong.

Now even Brazil’s politicians are lining up for their piece of the pie. Due to a quirk of Brazilian law, candidates are allowed to run under the name of their choice. As a result, at least six Brazilian politicians have officially renamed themselves “Barack Obama” in a bid to get an edge over their rivals in October’s municipal elections.

So it seems that our sainted Barack can easily be the leader of the EU OR the OAS. Nice to have your electoral options open.

But, it turns out the old adage “what’s in a name” isn’t true. If these people wanted to vote for more than just a name, and wanted to vote for the candidate that most embodies St. Obama’s TRUE SPIRIT….. they would most certainly vote for the workers’ party fella. Or maybe the communist.

“what’s in a name” is not, strictly speaking, an “old adage.” These are actually the words of Juliet (written, of course, by Mr. Shakespeare) to Romeo in Act II of (of course) Romeo and Juliet. An adage is generally a common usage word or phrase whose author and origin is not known. I don’t suppose this is necessarily the case, but that is the usual connotation.

    By me, anyway.

    Love you.

Ok ok ok. But I wrote on the internet that it’s an adage, so now it is.

Don’t you know everything you read on the internet is true ? Come on, Ma.
