This lady’s got chutzpah

I gotta believe that Hil is behind this just a bit. I know that there is that PUMA outfit out there, and I have personally heard from a few fence-sitters/disaffected Dems who are doing the same, but this thing, making news now….. I just have to believe that the Clinton machine is behind it more that just a tad.
Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN.
The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will “campaign and help him through the election,” the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.
But I wanna warn my brethren and sister-en on the right of something. Don’t get too excited about stuff like this. First, their numbers are few and far between. Might be enough to swing the popular vote, but most of them are New York/Cali crowd that won’t make a lick of difference in the electoral vote.
Second, this is almost entirely political. (almost entirely political ???? With the CLINTONS ???? SAY IT AIN’T SO !!!) They won’t really work that hard for McCain. They are signal-senders mostly, letting the disenfranchised and disappointed Hillary Army know that it’s ok to vote for McCain, but not ok to stay home. “Hey, look, some of the big cats are flipping, you can too.” This is not an effort to help McCain, it’s an effort to hurt Obama. Why ? Last I checked, we have another election in 4 years- the process of which will probably start on November 5, 2008 (sigh). Hillary doesn’t want McCain to win, she wants Obama to lose.
(although in this case I will gladly accept the premise of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.)
Third, last, and most importantly, this is yet another clear cut sign of what many people forget. Clinton is entirely, completely, and almost to a fault, a power-politician. There is no principle here. She and her grubby-hubby have no principles. It’s all about gaining, holding, and manipulating power. How could all these Hillary supporters be jumping to McCain if the express purpose was not to defeat Obama (preferably in a career-ending way) so that Hil can saddle up and take the reins in ‘12. ?
I have long said that Hillary presents to me a much less scary presidential possibility than the Annointed One. She is a pragmatist, willing to do whatever needed to maintain her power base. She would have been much less dangerous to the country and to the world. Obama is a zealot, and a lightweight zealot at that. He’ll be stumbling around the situation room like a drunk kid with a rock in his shoe.
Anyway, all that said, I say kudos to you, Mme. Lynn Forester de Rothschild. God speed to you, and I hope you bring many more with you to the side d’enlightenment.
