I’ll never learn…..

Posted in Politics at 3:35 pm by JB

I read another E.J. Dionne column, and now I’m dumber. (I get the same way with David Broder)

Here ’tis.

It really sucks to live in a place where the smartest columnist is Kornheiser. The purpose of an op-ed piece is to relay some information, with some spin involved. I accept that. Dionne and Broder always leave me wondering what the hell their point is.

Broder is the “dean of the Washington press corps”…. that is journalistic slang for “he’s not dead yet.” I don’t give a damn that Helen Thomas is the longest-serving White House correspondent. Who gives a rat’s-ass ? She’s a shrill and stupid old biddy who has no business being there in the first place.

And just to prove my chops, that Jeff G…. whatever his name is… he didn’t belong there either.

When do we start to get some seriousness, and not so much silliness ? Government has- much to my chagrin- become serious business. Journalism should do the same. Serious matters should be dealt with by serious people. Maybe that’s why Limbaugh and Fox News kick the crap out of everyone else….

When you have serious matters that need to be explained, and you need intelligent and serious people to explain them…. Larry King and Nancy Grace, Keith Olberman and Anderson Cooper…. maybe not the best people to explain.

The French forget history too….

Days after calling Iran a “stabilizing” force in the Middle East, French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy issued a statement harshly criticizing Iran’s call on Thursday to destroy Israel.

“I totally condemn these words,” Douste-Blazy said on France-Inter radio, in response to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s statement Thursday that the solution to the current Middle East crisis was to destroy Israel.

Well ain’t that just cute. Evidently this moron hasn’t read a paper in 25 years. Is it not required for politicians in Europe to have at least some level of seriousness ?

Alex Jones for DNC Chair…..

This dude is as nutty as a fruitcake. And Byron York takes him to task.

I always wonder a little when a “syndicated radio show host” won’t post the station list that they are syndicated to. Isn’t part of your marketing strategy to get the locals to listen…. anyway…..

This is one of the 9/11 conspiracy clowns, and for some reason his version of vile tripe has taken hold. People actually believe this shit.

“Senatorial hissy fit”

Posted in Politics, The UN-able at 1:39 pm by JB

This editorial, from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, is priceless. A little slice:

“During his career in international public service, [John] Bolton helped design the U.S. action that pushed Iraq out of Kuwait and was part of the effort persuading Libya to drop its weapons program,” the New York Daily News editorialized this week. “New York’s Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton must not participate in such a senatorial hissy fit.”

The man is highly quallified, highly effective, and for once in 20 years (since Jeanne Kirkpatrick left) is actually standing up for the interests of the US and the freedom-loving world.

Anyone that opposes him doesn’t deserve to be a part of this government.

Because of how he has his shop setup, you can’t link to a particular post, so I’ll give a taste of it here and then you can click the “More” thing at the bottom….

Not to engage in petty little blogwars, but this piece by Andrew Sullivan is a remarkable piece of intellectual shabbiness. I should state up front that I have enjoyed and respected Mr. Sullivan’s work for a long time, although considerably less so for some time. That happens; blogs move in different directions as the author proceeds along their private intellectual anabasis, and you find less of what you came for, or a shift in tone and timbre that lessens the bond you once felt. I’m sure it’s happened with my readers over the years. Gain some, lose some, and often you lose them for reasons you may one day regret.

Damn I’m getting old….

MTV is 25 ? The first video I remember seeing was Quarterflash’s “Harden My Heart” which was a terrible song and a terrible video. And Glenn Guin- still a friend- crushed my fantasies when he told me that they were actually LIP-SYNCHING !!! The pain still lingers to this day.

I am proud, however, to still remember when MTV actually played music…. those were the days. And this is a good take on the station’s first quarter-century.

A few words about Firefox

Posted in General at 7:31 am by JB

I am a fan of Firefox, and of Mozilla overall. Much better browser software than Microsoft ever even tried…. that said, this is my latest post on the FF message board.

New Firefox….. Is complete crap. I have never had so many problems with a piece of software. I was “auto-updated” to 1.5.0.6 and it is the most memory intensive, poorly written, bug-ridden piece of garbage I have ever installed. It almost makes me want to go back to IE.

Cultural Maturation…. or not

*** Completely worthless post alert ***

Do you guys ever have this problem ?? Watching late-night TV (as I often do) I find myself in the midst of a major personal change. For instance, when it was on the air, a team of horses couldn’t drag me to a viewing of Walker, Texas Ranger. Now, if it’s on, I can’t seem to turn it off. I find it fascinating that every criminal in Texas knows martial arts. ;) I also find it mildly fascinating that Chuck Norris ever got acting work.

On the flip side, when I was younger the Paul Reiser/Helen Hunt show Mad About You was appointment-viewing. I never missed it, if I could help it. Now it is actually almost physically painful to watch.

Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes. Etc.

Of course, I hated this show when it was on then, and I still hate it now. I bet even Cosby is ashamed of this piece of crap.

Americans get dumber every day

Posted in Politics, 9/11 at 4:15 am by JB

Take a gander at this….

More than a third of the American public suspects that federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East, according to a new Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll.

(sigh)
