Sometimes the one offering it is no longer able to function, and live a happy life.
I have flown to Memphis today with the express purpose of doing something I have dreaded for the better part of my life. My puppy, the sweet and wonderful Burnadette Prometheus Blazer, has had a wonderful 14-1/2 years, but she has gotten very feeble, and in the last two weeks has had seizures and now is basically immobile and frail.
She spent a few days at the vet and all her other organs are working fine, it seems, but she has some serious neuro control problems. So….
Tomorrow morning I will be standing in a clean room, with a metal table, and saying goodbye to the best friend I have ever had.
I know most people don’t care to hear things like that, and honestly neither do I…. but I needed to share.
I’ll post some pics and stuff in the coming days so you can know who I’m talking about. And I know it’s a silly request, but… keep my sisters and the rest in your prayers, if you would. I don’t think any of us realized how hard this was going to be. The upside is now Burney can go see my Pop and Grandmother, and my Jo, who she knew and loved dearly, and her Fee, who died very early, and all the other puppies in history who were loved and left us too early.
All dogs go to heaven, after all.

And I thought that the well-preserved Adam Smith at King’s College was weird. This, however, shouldn’t surprise anyone, given that Nederland is just a quick jaunt up the canyon from Boulder!
My favorite from this story:
The Town Council immediately passed an ordinance making it illegal to store dead bodies on private property, but couldn’t make the law retroactive, which meant Mr. Morstoel was allowed to stay.
“He was grandfathered in,” Mr. Felkley deadpanned.
Weekend at Bernie’s comes to mind!

From Fox News…. “US INTEL: No indication of terrorism”
Yeah….. ok. Not sure if the US intel community- sadly and sometiimes tragically- is the best place place to turn to for information.
For the record, at this moment I think this is probably an accident, but not exactly sure how that can happen. It’s not easy to crash into a building no matter how damaged the plane may be. But the facts aren’t in yet, and we’ll just have to see.
I guess my actual response would be “not a terrorist attack, but a lone-nut attack”. But the story is still young. If I had to guess, some private pilot wanted to take himself out and maybe a few others with him/her.
It does show a glaring hole in the net that should be over our cities, both in radar and military-response preparedness.
But it’s early at the moment. My gut tells me it’s intentional, but not an orchestrated attack… just some lone nut who wants to off himself and be forever famous.
UPDATE: And thank goodness, preliminary indications are that I am dramatically wrong, and it was just a terrible accident.

In Saudi Arabia, they now ban pets. In Afghanistan, they just chop their heads off and have a “ball.”
In Buzkashi, a headless carcass is placed in the center of a circle and surrounded by the players of two opposing teams. The object of the game, is to get control of the carcass and bring it to the scoring area.
Buzkashi, is indeed a dangerous sport, but intensive training and excellent communication between the horse and rider can help minimize the risk of injury.
Minimize the risk of injury! Unless, of course, you’re the calf with the missing head.
And I thought “Utlimate Fighting” was uncivilized.

Western ideological corruption has to be stopped! Saudi’s are having pets! How frightening!
(End sarcasm)
“One bad habit spreading among our youths is the acquisition of dogs and showing them off in the streets and malls,” wrote Aleetha al-Jihani in a letter to Al-Madina newspaper. “This is blind emulation of the infidels.”
HOW COULD ANYONE NOT LOVE A LOYAL, LOVEABLE, PET?
This just shows the puritanical, moronic, harsh, unfeeling, and brutal nature of our “allies” in Saudi Arabia. This is the silliest thing I have ever seen. In my opinion, that whole region of the world would be well-served by “blind emulation of the infidels.” Maybe it would allow them to develop some love, compassion, and sanity.
If my sweet little cat Samantha - and my neighbor cats Rocky and DC - had middle fingers long enough, they’d be flipping the big old bird at the Muttawa!
Aren’t you glad you live here? God Bless America.

and, it being prison, I REALLY don’t want to know how they manage to dial the numbers…
Cell phones, complete with a charger and data chips, were found in the body cavities of four inmates at a maximum-security prison, and they had used the phones to direct criminal activities on the street, officials said Wednesday.
…
“Each one had a cellular with a number of chips,” Arevalo said, adding that one also had hidden a charger in his anal cavity.

Not…. ummmm…. not sure what to say about this one. But here’s a snippet…..
When Nicholas Grunke last week spotted a newspaper photo of Laura Tennessen, the Wisconsin man apparently became so smitten that he plotted a rendezvous with the 20-year-old woman. But the photo Grunke saw accompanied an August 27 obituary of Tennessen, who died in a motorcycle accident.
So what does any smitten cheese-head do ?…. let’s just say it involved romantic lighting, and a shovel.

Maybe…. this could be quite frightening.
Mother Nature, not an ordinance, will draw the covers over public nudity in Brattleboro.
The town’s Select Board decided Tuesday to take no action on an anti- nudity ordinance that was introduced in response to a clothing- optional movement launched by local teenagers this summer.
To paraphrase the wise philosopher Ron White, “Guys back me up on this…. once you’ve seen one woman naked… you pretty much wanna see the rest of ‘em naked.”

I love the Brits. I love their accents. I love their pubs. I love their irreverant wit. I love their passion for Manchester United. I couldn’t care less, however, about this.
“I feel hoodwinked,” says Mark LaFramboise, a buyer for Politics & Prose, an independent store based in Washington, D.C. LaFramboise said he ordered 10-12 copies. “This is Washington and we thought it might have been a relevant political book. But this is nothing but publicity gimmickry. They should be ashamed of themselves.”
Actually, “Washington” should be ashamed of itself for thinking this is still a story.
Can we please stop??? Nobody cares!
