Folks, I get so frustrated with the media stories that seem to dominate our debate and draw our attention.
Students, parents, and their loved ones at Virginia Tech just went through a tragedy so disgusting that it defies all logic and ought to outrage and hurt all of us.
Much to my dismay, the senseless, cowardly acts of a deranged and pathetic individual appear - in our mass media - to somehow be on par with a squabble between Karl “MC” Rove and Sheryl Crow at a hoity-toity gathering of Prima Donnas under the guise of a “Correspondents’ Dinner.”
I have to disclose that I have almost equal distaste for politicians and Hollywood activist wanna-be’s. I’m almost embarrassed for even making this an issue. My philosophy is that the best way to remove mindless, irrelevant “news” from the public discourse is to simply ignore it until it goes away. But if you’ll indulge me, I’ll make a few points.
1) Sheryl Crow should stick to making music. It’s a gift she has.
2) Karl Rove should DEFINITELY stick to NOT making music.
3) Nobody should care about the fact that Sheryl Crow allegedly “insulted” Karl Rove. He should be used to it, and everyone should recognize that Hollywood “activists” are largely attention-grabbing malcontents in need of fulfillment.
4) Karl Rove, to his credit, is a public servant. Sheryl Crowe is an entertainer (and a good one at that). She should either stick to entertaining, which has an incredible amount of value, or she should throw herself into public service before shooting off her mouth to a public servant.
This is NOT news, folks! Ignore it (even if I haven’t!).
Lastly, I would like to know where the funding for this “White House Correspondents’ Association” dinner originates from. If it’s privately funded, so be it. If it’s taxpayer-funded, it’s not only a waste of time, but an absolute scandal. Particularly when we can’t even afford to provide our soldiers with the proper gear to avoid spilling blood in defense of correspondents, politicians, and Hollywood loonies who gather each year for frivolous and utterly silly dinners.

Imus deserves everything he’s going to get on this one.
Props to the Rutgers women’s team. Probably ought to open up on old nutty Imus, but I’m sure they’ll respond with class. The best thing would probably be to ignore Imus (like most of us ignore MSNBC), but I can understand how they’d like to see him face to face. No need to fire him, though. I agree with JB - nobody watches him anyway.

Imus has been a moron for the better part of two decades, and I thought everyone knew that already. I read this story and thought “well, it’s about time someone took his coked-out, un-interesting ass off the air.
He does some good things, but mostly he’s just an idiot. As an idiot, of course MSNBC picks him up to fill airtime. This really is a non-story to me. There is nothing new here. It’s just more of Don being not worth the air he breathes.

Why I don’t like Bill O’Reilley….
He got into just this side of a knock-down, drag-out fight with Jerry Rivers tonight (or as you schmucks know him, Geraldo Rivera) but neither of them got to the actual question.
Geraldo always has to pull the “lawyer” thing out of the bag. When was the last time Rivera practiced law ? He’s a media whore.
Bill is just a hot-head. There were so many questions I was waiting to hear asked, and… no dice.
Geraldo sees anything involving immigration as a slam against Mexicans. That shouldn’t be the issue. A little background:
Evidently some illegal was in Virginia Beach, VA, and had a bit of a record- DUI, things like that. Then he had a little too much again and killed two people.
Geraldo frames the arguement as an anti-immigration stance from Bill, Bill frames it as a global law enforcement issue. DUI isn’t a felony, so there is no reason to remove the guy- that is Jerry’s idea.
Entering this country, without legal allowance, is a felony. If the prick gets a parking ticket, he should be deported. Geraldo sees himself as some sort of immigration savior, but he has no ground to stand on.
If you enter this country illegally, and you are found committing a crime, that is the only reason needed to kick your black, white, brown, green, whatever ass out of this country. You broke the law when you got here, and now you broke it again.
It is still amazing to me that California has a 3-strikes law, and every illegal in Mexico has burned one strike just by coming here. It’s a difference between state and federal law, and that’s ok….
But if you steal a candy bar, and get arrested, you don’t HAVE TO BE CONVICTED !!! If you are in this country without authorization, that is enough. We deport you. We should deport you. You don’t belong here. This isn’t your country. Get the hell out !!
I have many friends all over the planet in various stages of months and years long processes to get in this country. They are trying hard and paying big and doing the things that are necessary and legal.
The people that are here without authorization should get no respect, and no dispensation from this country. They are not… they are NOT supposed to be here. If we keep this up, as a country, it is gonna bring about the death of the United States of America.
For all you nut-jobs who are so worried about global warming, why don’t you take a step back and look at the political warming of the country you live in.
If the sense, and global leadership of the US dies, we really are doomed. There is no other country that can lead the world. We can right now, until the Democrats toss so much silliness into the mix that nobody knows what to do, or vote for, anymore.
Nancy Pelosi needs to be written up for treason
When did we stop using the treason statutes in this country? We friend the Rosenbergs in the 50’s and since then, nada.
Treason is a constitutional crime. One of 2 I think. Nancy Pelosi, by traveling overseas to meet with enemies of this country against the advice of this country’s diplomacy arm, and delivering messages to Assad that are against our own policy and that of our allies, is the textbook definition of “aid and comfort” to the enemy.
The State Department has had Syria on the terrorist list for a while. Now the Democratic leader of the Congress is sucking up to terrorist leaders. And giving them all the PR that they want.
This is sad, this is terrible, this is cheap. And this is treason. I hope some Republican in the House will wake up and introduce articles to remove Pelosi from the House before the weekend is over. This is very important stuff, and it is time that someone paid attention to it.
The Dems are running all over the country saying that the ‘06 elections were a consensus decision by the American people to give the Democrats complete power. How a 1-vote margin in the Senate, and a basic reverse of the old numbers in the House proves that, I’m not sure. The Democrats never seemed to think their 12-yr minority was “the American people giving a mandate” but now the rules seem to have changed.
So change them. I want someone to introduce ethics resolutions against Pelosi for removal from the House for conduct unbecoming the chamber, and I want press, I want discussion, I want debate.
It is time for the Republicans to stop being lap-dogs to the press. It’s time for a fight on this issue, on the war, on a lot of things.

WTC-7 and other 9/11 goofy-ness
Can I just say this, because I am so friggin tired of this discussion….
I was watching on 9-11 when the towers were hit, and the buildings fell. I was talking, for a lot of the day, with my dear friend Debi…. and I told her, when that first tower fell, that it wouldn’t be the only one. Not because of any sinister plot, but because of engineering and seismic realities….
When 300 tons of concrete and steel hits the ground- or 3 million… whatever it is…. there is quite a rumble. Just the shock along from such a crash is enough to crumble most brick buildings. And everyone needs to keep in mind…. the lower part of Manhattan is basically built on silt. It’s not the strongest foundation in the world. When those two buildings hit the ground, it was inevitable that other buildings would be in jeopardy…
But the real question is… of COURSE WT-7 was abandoned. Silverman gave the order to get everyone out, to get the occupants and the fire crews out, and because it was so damaged already, to add it to the already mounting damage. Is that a bad thing ? There is nothing nefarious there.
It’s just another example of the hate-America crowd going off their meds. And it happens all the damn time.
Cheney is the most evil person in the world, and accidentally shoots a man in the face. If Cheney was so evil, don’t ya think that man would be dead ?
9-11 was an inside job to launch a war in the middle east for oil…. so.. why do it at 9 AM and evacuate the buildings. Why not do it at 11am, when the buildings are full ? Why not get more experienced pilots who can hit at just the right place and take it down before anyone can get out ?
The whole discussion of things like that just pisses me off. And anyone who listens to what the 9-11 conspiracy craziness is not worth listening to. I only hope most of them don’t have children, because they will just create more nut-jobs.
On September 11, 2001, a lot of crazy SOB’s took over some planes, and killed as many people as they could. Thankfully, they didn’t kill as many as they wanted.
And now out nation, and our civilization is at war with a whacked-out version of Islam. YES. Islam. The Orthodox Greeks aren’t trying to kill us.
To not recognize that very simple reality is to sign a potential death warrant. The Church of England isn’t trying to kill western civilization. Radical Islam is. It is a religious war to a degree, but the only religion involved is on their side. This country is trying as hard as it can to de-religion everything that is important, and that matters.
I am not a zealot. But I am a nationalist, and a conservative. This country, and much of the European west, is trying so damn hard to be nice that it isn’t taking care of what is important.
Could we get a “fear, but fear itself” speech now ? Of course not. There would be nods to the EU and curtsies to the UN. But no real leadership, and no real resolve to get the damn job done.
The US, regardless of what the press and the Democrats say, is not an imperial country. We are a freedom country- sometimes to our peril… Illegal immigration, Darfur, most of Africa, really. We have out-sourced our foreign policy to Bono, for Christ’s sake. Why ? Because we kneel, too often, at the alter of the UN.
Kick that worthless collection of despots and derelicts out of this country, and do it forth-with. The UN hasn’t done anything productive since it created Israel in ‘48, and has spend the better part of 60 years trying to crush that one good thing. We don’t need the UN. And the world would be better if the powers with ability had to actually move, and take care of themselves.
This is not a matter of equality. This is the very survival of a civilization. Radical Islam doesn’t want to kidnap you and put you on TV. They want to kill you. To kill you. Let me say it again…. TO KILL YOU.
Negotiations and summits won’t change that. It’s been that way for 30 years. They don’t want to talk. We’ve been working on strategic ways to reduce the threat. They are working on newer, and more effective ways to KILL YOU.
When in the Holy hell are some of you idiotic people gonna wake up and see that ? I do not have patience for “political power”. I am a conservative first, and a Republican next. If a Democrat candidate came out and saw this issue the way it really is, and not as a political posture, I’d vote for them. This is the only issue that is absolutely critical. It is critical to the very survival of this country, and the world.
Why ? Because tax cuts and abortion policy, spending reductions and federalism, military strength and self-reliance… all of that… ALL of that… means nothing at all if crazy Muslims KILL US ALL. It’s hard to bitch about voter fraud in Cleveland if Cleveland is in a nuclear ruin.
That isn’t alarmist, that is the reality that we all live in. And to deny that because you think John Edwards is cute, or think Obama would be a great president because, “oh wow, it’ll be cool to tell my kids that I voted for the first black president.”
Does nobody else see how absolutely asinine that is ?

Simple solution…. TERM LIMITS
Term limits, term limits, term limits.
For the House, 6 years in, 4 years out. 6 in, 4 out.
For the Senate, 12 years in, 6 years out. 12 in, 6 out.
Serve the public, and then go do something with your damn life. For the House, 3 terms in, 2 terms out. You can do that forever. Same with the Senate. 2 terms in, one term out. Or, I’d even go along with after 2 or 4 you can run against your State comrade.
Go get on a few boards of companies. Go teach. Go start a business.
Professional politicians know almost nothing at all about real life in America. Give them some time to serve, and then send them packing for a few years. They can come back if they choose, but it should be from desire of service, not from the professional politician mindset.

I don’t check the Puffy-Ho often, and I admit it. Life is too damn short. But does it bother anyone else that it is basically occupied by mindless celebrities and no-name, know-nothing scribes ? I don’t see any real debate. I see a buncha over-paid morons spouting. But it’s a lotta liberals, so I suppose that is redundant.
I read this thing a few minutes ago. I must warn you… it’s profanity laced, but in the cute “Hollywood” way. It makes no sense at all. And if you are allergic to metaphors, you will be in shock in the first paragraph.
I found it hilarious and very sad all at the same time. Here’s an actor who was awful terrible horrifically bad on one show, and has done exactly nothing else but hire someone to write blog posts for him. That must be a really sad existence, but he and his minions need something to do until the get the call from NBC that their show sucks donkey balls, is canceled, and Aaron Sorkin needs to get off the ’shrooms and get a real job.

Check and double check.
You really have to read the whole thing to appreciate the absolute and blithering idiocy. And I especially like the fact that he keeps having to mention the white wine he has consumed. Is that supposed to be an excuse for being a moron, or some sort of hat-tip to Hollywood chic ?

There are people who have seen you act, and think you are great, and love every single word of it…. those people will finish reading your archives as soon as they get back from kindergarten or get the curtains put out from the unexpected bong fire.
Then there are those who have seen you act and are having a very serious internal struggle as to whether the character Lowell (Thomas Hayden Church) or the engine to the plane from Wings is smarter than you. To call your acting abilities untalented is an insult to the untalented, to call your pseudo-success unfathomable is an insult to the fathoms… To put your abilities from the pilot of Wings against your performance on the last episode of Studio 60 is to watch a career and ability growth that can only be matched by a mosquito. From .2 mm to about 2 mm, and over in a day.
Sorry- I read your dreck and I went metaphor happy. But at least I didn’t insult 80% of the nation with a cheap and disgusting “minister” crack.
Please let the rest of us know what your next show will be after the Studio 60 thing crashes and burns, so we know when we can schedule to be away from the TV. Although, personally, I’d like to see you on an 8pm eastern show, so I can see O’Reilley kick your ass directly. And I don’t like him either, but…. lesser of two evils.
Poor headlines and editorial oversight
I don’t know why the WaPo thinks the government, which deals with millions of more important issues than Marion Barry’s latest escapades, thinks the accuracy should be better than this:
Headline: White House Spokesman’s Colon Cancer Has Returned
Later in the story: “‘Seventeen days after the diagnosis, we go in and take the whole colon out and throw it in a garbage bag,’ he told Cincinnati Gentleman, a magazine in his home town. He also received six months of chemotherapy.”
I know, it’s a small thing, but it’s a sign of a bias…. it’s a sign of poor writing and even more poor editing. So lemme get this right…. Tony Snow had his colon removed 2 years ago, and now has colon cancer ? Does that mean I need to start looking for cervical cancer ? Or maybe ovarian cancer ?
All of those are terrible and dreadful diseases. I wish only the best, and long and happy lives for any woman suffering and living with those afflictions. But…. I’m not gonna check, because I have neither a cervix, nor ovaries. Tony doesn’t have a colon anymore. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have colon cancer.
He has cancerous cells that have metasticized to his liver. And yet, in typical media fashion, the story is about everything BUT Tony. It’s about Dana Perino and Elizabeth Edwards. It is really ok, guys, to sometimes just tell the story, and not try to twist it into your worldview.
Overall it’s not a bad story, but at the same time it stinks. It smacks of the liberal bias that the WaPo is famous for, and has lost so much ground in- the NYT eats your lunch every day in silly liberal bias.
Just write the facts.
Presidential politics
The Senate is famous for having self-aggrandizing schmucks- they all want to be president, and for a simple example, just look at how the 100 (almost in toto) want to micromanage the war.
Now, some are making their decisions based on their own political futures. But let’s be honest- there isn’t a single member of congress, house or senate, that has a chance of being president right now. And that is even more pointed on the GOP side.
If these people, men and women, want to direct the war, they should resign their posts in congress and run for the presidency. All 535 of them.
The Constitution is very clear on who is the Commander in Chief. And it is very clear on what powers the Congress has. This is a political….
I really try to be nice and civil on this site, but it’s time for some brutal truth. This vote, in the House and the Senate, is almost entirely party-line, and it is a political blow-job that the Dems are giving to the Code Pink, the Cindy Sheehan, the DailyKos wing of their constituency.
I am sick and tired of people that wake up in the morning, and go to bed at night, thinking that America is wrong. Always, all the time. America is always wrong. I don’t know why these people continue to think this way. It’s sad, and it’s…. look- I have a good life, but there are many many things that I don’t like about it. I do not wake up and lay down in misery. It would drive me nuts, which is what it has done, on the left. These friggin people are crazy.
The good thing for the left is that I didn’t pursue a career in politics. A few youthful indescressions made that impossible, and I’m not sure I’d want to do it anyway, now.
But I would not be a nice and cute as this administration is.
If you protest on The Mall, that’s fine. If you protest at congressional offices, that’s fine too. I am a firm believer in the freedom of speech, and the first amendment (unlike McCain and Feingold).
As has happened lately- if you attack a military recruitment office… well buddy, guess what. You aren’t a protester anymore. You are an insurgent in the US. You have committed treason against your country, and I’d ship your dumb ass off to Gitmo as soon as I could find you. You have, from within, attacked a military installation. Time for you to join Akbar and Muhammed in the glorious climes of Cuba.
This country is, thanks to the ridiculous media, talked itself into a suicide pact. And I just won’t stand for it. Most of the people of this country are so, to-the-bone stupid, that a normal conversation can’t even occur anymore. The lack of critical thinking has been so dumbed down, thanks to liberal schools and liberal media, that it’s impossible for most morons in this country to have a good discussion of issues.
The very idea. THE VERY IDEA !!! The very idea that Tom Tancredo or Hillary Clinton think they can run for president is just scary. The very idea that Ross Perot hurt two elections… the very idea that Pat Buchanan thought he could. Or Pat Robertson. Or Barack Obama. Or…
Where are the serious minds ? Where are the serious thinkers, who have examined these issues, and have knowledge, experience, and history of both fore- and hindsight gone ?
One of the reasons I like Fred Thompson is because he’s actually done something.
Chuck Schumer wants to be the first Jewish president. Chuckie ran for the NY house when he was 22. He’s been a politician his entire….. HIS…. ENTIRE…. DAMN…. LIFE !!!!

Pat Leahy- what scourge of humanity- talks about how… “When I was a prosecutor back in the 60’s, I did…” That was 1/2 a century ago. So we really need to listen to his ideas of modern America ?
Ted Kennedy. Robert Byrd. These guys, together, have served almost 100 years in the Senate. Do they not have any new ideas ? I know we have some of that on the GOP side also, but at least I smell a whiff of integrity and polity there. I don’t see that on the Dem side.
Jay Rockefeller has been a Senator for 25 years. And he’s the junior senator to a former Klan member. That’s just a stain on the now-almost-completely-paved West Virginia.
I do not always vote Democrat. When I lived in Arkansas, as I recall, I often voted for Democrats for the House. Not so much for the Senate, but I’d have to think harder about it.
And I have often been disappointed with my choices. My first presidential vote was for GHW Bush. Not thrilled about that. I voted for Tim Hutchinson. Not pleased with that either.
